Safeguarding

At Newburn Manor Primary we take our responsibility for promoting the safeguarding and welfare of students very seriously. We ensure that full discussion of the school’s safeguarding policy is included in the induction of all new members of staff and volunteers to ensure that there is a common understanding and to maintain a safe culture at the forefront of staff consciousness. All staff have child protection training updates every year and we encourage all staff to raise any concerns they may have about students as the interests of the pupil are paramount and take priority over professional loyalties.

OUR DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING LEAD IS MR STUART PICKUP WHO IS THE HEADTEACHER.

CHILD PROTECTION CONCERNS SHOULD BE REFERRED TO MR PICKUP IN THE FIRST INSTANCE AND MRS CLAIRE GILL - DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER - IF MR PICKUP IS UNAVAILABLE.

Operation Encompass, which commenced in April 2015, aims to support children who are affected by domestic abuse.  Witnessing domestic abuse is really distressing for a young person, who can often see the abuse, hear it from another room, see a parent’s injuries or distress afterwards or be physically hurt trying to stop the abuse.

Each school has a member of staff (key adult) who has been fully trained to liaise with the Police, when required, and will ensure that necessary support is made available to the child following the disclosure of a domestic abuse incident.
