Learning together, growing together

Autumn B

Week 4       23.11.20

This week year 3 have been learning about the social pyramid in Ancient Egypt. We looked at Egyptian Pharaoh fact files and chose our favourite Pharaoh.  We even wrote some instructions on how to behave if you are lucky enough to get an audience with the Pharaoh!

Week 3    16.11.20

Where and when did the Ancient Egyptian's live?

This week we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We have been looking at maps to locate Egypt and look at the famous River Nile. We wanted to find out when the Ancient Egyptian's lived so we have been looking at timelines. We made our own time line of key events in Egyptian history.

Week 2    9.11.20

Diwali

This week we have been learning about Diwali,  the Hindu festival of lights. The festival usually lasts five days to celebrate  the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Diwali actually means 'rows of lightened lamps'. People light oil lamps to remember how Rama and Sita were welcomed home. Hindus believe that by lighting lamps, the goddess Lakshmi will visit them and bring them wealth.

We have designed our own lamps called ' diyas' to think about this special time for Hindu people.

Children in Need.

We are so proud of the money that we have helped raise towards Children in Need. Joe Wickes inspired us to join in with his 24 hour PE challenge. We completed a 25 minute work out live on the BBC.

Week 1    26.10.20

Welcome back Year 3!

Geography.

This week we have been really busy finishing our Geography topic: Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes. We found out about a terrible day in AD79 when at the Bay of Naples in Italy, a volcano named Mount Vesuvius had a historic eruption.  We were fascinated to find out about the human fossils frozen in time by the depth of the ash which fell on the city of Pompeii.

Next week we will begin our new topic all about the Ancient Egyptians. Keep an eye out for our artefact investigation coming soon!

Art

We created some amazing 2D and 3D Fireworks pictures this week. Look at how we folded and curled the paper to make the fireworks look like they are exploding out of the page!
