Learning together, growing together

Summer Term

Term 3b Week 1

Reception have had a super busy week this week with our half of our class going on their second Forest School outing and lots of the children working hard at writing sentences independently.  We have begun our new topic for the half term and are thinking about minibeasts, especially ladybirds using the book - 'What the Ladybird Heard', by Julia Donaldson.  In our Maths sessions this week we have been thinking about number lines from 1 to 10 and using our imaginations to talk about them if a number goes before or after 5 and pointing to different parts of our imaginary number lines to show where a specific number would go.  We also ordered numerals 1-10 then 11-20.  A couple of children spotted that our cards went from 1 to 100 and asked if they could have a go - they were given the cards in sets of 10 and many of the children began to spot the pattern in the number squares created!

Big Bear Funk!

On Wednesdays we have been learning to play music to  a track called Big Bear Funk. We have been learning how to play different instruments, follow a rhythm and clapback to a musical pattern. We created our own musical band of funky chickens, funky bears and funky monkeys and performed our sing to Mr Pickup. Great music Reception!

Term 3a Week 3

Reception have been thinking about numbers that add up to 5 this week, we played a game with double sided counters dropping them and then saying the number phrase -

5 is made of 2 and 3, 2 and 3 make 5

or

5 is made of 2 red ones and 3 yellow ones, 2 red and 3 yellow make 5.

We read Jack and the Beanstalk and thought about how it was similar to and different from Jaspers Beanstalk, each of the children worked hard to write a sentence about a picture from the story such as 'Mam was mad' or 'Jack went up', 'The giant was cross, he chased Jack.'

We have been practising telling Jasper and The Beanstalk and we are hoping to make a video for next week.

Term 3a Week 2

We have continued to think about growing and changing and it has been lovely to see some of the baby photos the children have brought in and hear them talk about how they have changed and what they can do now that they couldn't do when they were babies.  We have been developing our Maths skills and are working hard to count small objects to 20, or pictures that can't be move to 20.  We even got in to our outdoor space a few times this week as the sun came out for us! Reception became super spring spotters as we went out into our school grounds and found signs of the changing seasons.

Term 3a Week 1

It has been lovely to have Reception return to school ready to learn, and ready to take advantage of the short spells of lovely weather we have had, this half term we are thinking about growing and changing, we are learning to tell the story of Jasper's Beanstalk - link below.  Already this week we have planted chive seeds in the class to watch them grow and have a taste of them when they are big enough. Some children helped to clean out our outside planting pots to plant sunflower seeds and beans.
