Christmas Party

The children had a wonderful time at their Christmas party this afternoon. First they enjoyed a catwalk show to share their party outfits! After that, we played musical statues, heads and tails and corners. There were some great dancers. We were eating some lovely party food and singing Christmas songs, when Mrs. Hainsworth noticed a Santa sack by her desk. We were all so excited! It seems Santa dropped off year 3 a present while we were all in the hall.

Thanks Santa!

Newburn Activity Centre

We had an amazing time this week at Newburn Activity Centre.

We split into 3 groups and rotated around different activities. The Activity Centre has an enormous climbing wall which we all enjoyed trying to climb up. Leo looked like Spider Man as he quickly moved up the wall. One of our activities was archery. Bobby hit the bullseye first time! We also played some team games and for a treat went in the soft play.  Check out some of our pictures from our trip. It was awesome!

Week 7

Earthquake Proof Buildings.

We have had such a great week, learning about the most earthquake proof buildings in the world.

We looked at the features of buildings which makes them earthquake proof and made a note of these design features.

Using materials around our school, we began to think about how to construct our own earthquake proof building. We have been investigating how cross-bracing makes a 2D shape stronger. We will use this technique in our final buildings.

Week 6  Music

We had a great time performing our Harvest song this week.

Check out our performance  'Conkers' saved in the Video Library.

Week 5

English

This week we have been reading an alternative version of the traditional tale, Little Red Hiding Hood.

We loved Roald Dahl's version, it was really funny! We practised performing it as a class. We had to use expression and think about the rhythm of the poem.

Using his poem for inspiration, we will be writing our own poem based on the traditional tale.

Keep a look out for the children's poems as they write them this week.

Week 3

Geography.

We had a fantastic time looking at the structure of the earth's crust. We have been learning that the earth is made up of separate pieces called the Tectonic Plates. We have been looking at the continents and where the tectonic plate lines are. We made a jigsaw of the world using the plates as the jigsaw pieces.

Week 2

This week the children started their gymnastics lessons in PE.  They had to make shapes with their bodies:

straddle, pike, tuck, arch and dish. The children worked independently and with a  partner, to mirror each others shapes and create a flowing routine.

Week 1

Welcome Parents and Carers,

It has been a fantastic start to the year! The children have settled back into school life really well.  I have been very pleased with how focused all of the children are and how keen they are to get stuck into Key Stage 2.

They have been working super hard already, starting their first geography topic: Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes.

We have begun assessing the children in reading and writing and will start their English topic next week. Spellings will come home shortly.

In maths we have started looking at place value and will complete maths assessments in arithmetic and reasoning and problem solving.

We will post lots of photos and videos to keep you all updated on the children’s progress, so please check the website weekly for updates.
