Transfer to secondary school 2024
If your child is in year 6 in a primary school you need to apply for a secondary school for year 7.
- If you live in Newcastle you will need to apply via Newcastle City Council via the citizen portal

- If you live in Gateshead you will need to apply via Gateshead Council
- If you live in Northumberland you will need to apply via Northumberland County Council
You must apply to the Council who collects your council tax even if it is in different council area (i.e. I live in Ryton but I want my child to attend Walbottle Academy. You will apply via Gateshead Council)
Applications open: 1st September 2023
Applications close: 31 October 2023
National offer day: 1 March 2024
If you have applied online you will be able to view the offer of a school place by accessing your online account. An email confirmation will be sent during office hours.
If you applied on a paper application form, a letter informing you which school your child has been offered will be posted on this date, meaning you will receive your letter after national offer day.
