Easter Extravaganza!

This week we have had lots of fun getting ready for Easter! First, we used paint to make a handprint bunny for the front cover of our Easter cards. Look how cute they are!

Then we decorated our very own Easter eggs. We chose a character before designing what we wanted it to look like on paper. After this, we painted a base layer on our eggs then got creative with different materials; wool, tissue paper, pom poms, card and feathers. Have a look at how they turned out below.

Happy Easter everyone!

Porridge... Yum!

We have followed instructions to make porridge this week.  We loved adding jam or honey as a sweet topping.  After making our porridge, we recorded the steps and created a set of instructions for Goldilocks to follow.

Who's been eating my porridge?

We had so much fun getting into character as Goldilocks or one of the three bears.  We used character masks while speaking our favourite lines from the fairy tale and we loved changing our voices to match our chosen character.

Fairy Tales

The children have really enjoyed not only listening to a range of fairy tales but also learning about the structure of fairy tales and some of their features this week.  The children can identify problems that are often posed at the beginning of a tale and they know that characters become involved in trying to solve the fairy tale problem before the end of the story.  They have really enjoyed looking closer at a number of known fairy tale characters too and whether they are typically described as  'good' or 'bad' characters.  Is the Giant in 'Jack and the Beanstalk' really a bad character?  Why might some people think Jack is the 'bad' character?  Is Goldilocks a good character? Why?  We have really enjoyed the challenge of thinking differently about some fairy tale characters this week and we are looking forward to studying new tales next week.

Welcome back!

The children have been brilliant this week and we have enjoyed being together in the classroom for what feels like the first time in ages.  Well done, Year1.  We are super proud of you all!
