Learning together, growing together

Spring term

Fabulous Easter hats, T-shirts and ties!

Some very creative and wonderful designs Year 2 and you have worked hard to master your dance linked to our Australian topic to the song, 'Down Under'.

Our final Dance Formations and performances!

Thank you to Olivia for teaching us all about formations, shapes, travelling and linking movements. We have enjoyed dancing each week!

Travelling in Dance

We developed our movements and linked them togethr, holding positions and travelling in different ways. We love playing dance Detectives.

In music, we used, 'MakeyMakey' to compose sounds and we had lots of fun creating different pieces through conducting. We took home information about 'Conductive' music and how we can log on at home to make even more.

We have been measuring a lot recently and estimated, compared and ordered lengths. We have been reading scales and solving problems.

Forest School Recounts

Have you had a look at our Forest School photos? We had lots of fun doing a wide range of activities and have written recounts about our time there.

We have been learning about Australia in Geography and used globes and atlases to find out about places and landmarks.

Habitat Hunt!

We went on a habitat hunt around the school grounds and explored microhabitats. Ask us what we found! We made our own food chains and webs.

We have been ordering and comparing measures and measured our heights and hand spans. We measured objects and solved problems involving length and height.

World Book Day!

Our World Book Day celebrations started on Monday with a virtual visit with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. We learned to draw like Axel and listened to some fairytales! As the week progressed, we explored our own fairytale forests further and wrote in character then on World Book Day we came into school as our favourite characters! Can you guess who we are? We started the day with a special author event from Simon Bartram and had lots of fun as our characters!

Attendance and Punctuality

Our book winners so far this term! Remember you can get Newbies and win a book in the Friday raffle for being in and being on time.

As part of our Dance unit in PE, we learned about statues and animals and put together movements to show different animals. We performed to the class and thought about how to make ourselves different shapes and heights.

Aboriginal Art!

Art Week

We learned about Aboriginal Art and looked at the work of artists. We studied Jeremy Pike and his techniques and created our own dreamtime stories and art work using some of the symbols and techniques we explored.

Internet Safety Day

We explored ways in which we can remain safe on the internet and watched and discussed clips and situations. We made posters to show others how to stay safe.

Investigating arrays.

In maths, we have been investigating in multiplication and used arrays to help us. We made our own arrays (then ate them!) We talked about bar models and how to solve problems and found all of our related division facts also.

Come and See!

We welcomed our families into class to work with us and see what we have been learning. In maths, we investigated ways to make amounts and our two and five times tables. We used our VIPERS strategies when talking about our reading and created portals to a fairy tale. Look out for our stories and writing edits coming soon...

NSPCC Number Day

We explored number bonds and investigated numbers.

Pudding Lane Bakery!

We created a bakery in class and in groups used role play to explore finding totals and calculating change in character as a shopkeeper or a customer. We bought several items, added up what they cost and worked out our change then checked our calculations. We had lots of fun shopping!

Composing Music to Lost and Found.

We had lots of fun composing music to the story, 'Lost and Found,' by Oliver Jeffers. We talked about what happened in each part of the story, how the characters felt and what the tempo, dynamics, pitch and duration might be like and how this might change. We retold each section of the story through using tuned and untuned percussion instruments, voices and body percussion and performed to the class.

Chinese New Year

We learned about Chinese New Year and retold the story of how the Years got their names. We talked about resolutions and setting targets and goals for this year and made our own. We made red envelopes and had fun finding out lots of facts about Chinese New Year and the year of the Rabbit.

Comparing money and making amounts.

We have been busy this week comparing money, making amounts with different coins and notes, solving problems and calculating with money.

School Council Vote

Congratulations to our School Council representatives. After discussion about what the role entails and what qualities we would bring to the position, we prepared speeches and presented them to the class. Children voted for who they wanted to represent the class and I was impressed by the standard of everyone's speeches who took part well done Year 2!

Investigating how to make different amounts of money in various ways.

We have started our money topic and children have been investigating ways they could make different amounts of money. At home, children could practise handling coins and talking about totals and change at the shops and how much each coin is worth.

Welcome back Year 2!

Happy New Year and welcome back everyone. Children have settled in well and have had a very busy first week back with Forest School starting for group 1 (Group 2 will begin in March), Some new topics beginning and new books and we welcome Mrs Sprawling who will be working with us every day. Our PE days continue to be a Wednesday and Thursday (Forest School group will be out Weds am - so they just need their waterproofs and wellies and uniform to change into afterwards). Spellings and phonic books will continue to be given out on a Friday for the following Friday and children can change their colour band books whenever they have read them throughout the week.

TTRS and Lexia log ins should be inside your child's homework book but please just ask if you need a copy as these can really support your child with their times tables and spellings at home. We are all looking forward to a busy and fun half term!
