Art
Our Vision
At Newburn Manor we want to give children the skills and confidence to develop into confident appreciators and creators of art. Children will have the opportunities to study artists and craftspeople from different times and cultures to develop their understanding of techniques, processes and sources of inspirations.
They will learn the core skills in drawing, painting, textiles, printing, 3d and digital media which will empower the children to draw ideas from artists and craftspeople and bring to life their own original creative ideas.
At Newburn Manor we don’t just study art, WE ARE ARTISTS!
Developing Art Skills and Creativity.
At Newburn Manor, the children will develop their art and design skills and creativity in three blocks.
Drawing and painting will underpin other areas of art curriculum so have been given special priority and time allocation.
The children will explore the other areas of Textile, Printing, Sculpture/3D in a Key Stage rather than each year in order to give them focused and extended time on each discipline.
In the Early Years, the children will look at all art disciplines throughout the year, to enable them to develop a solid foundation of skills before specialising in Key Stage 1 and 2.
Please see the table below for the programme of study.

Whole School Progression of Skills in Art
Art Mats
During each Art Week, the children will look at artists and craftspeople who demonstrate the skills in which they will be practising. They will then explore their own lines of enquiry and develop original responses to the starting points they have studied. The skills that need to cover and the suggested artists they can look at are displayed in an Art Mat.
These Art Mats also become the foundation for the assessment of skills.
Please see the example below from the Year 4 Drawing module.
