You may not have noticed much of a change since we officially became part of the Outer West Learning Trust and that’s how we want it, the same but different! The day to day running of our school will remain the same but we have now the potential to work with and learn from other schools, develop great opportunities for learning and share high quality training for staff.
 
Our first Trust event was an athletics meeting at Newburn Activity Centre on Tuesday of last week involving years 4 and 5 from 10 local schools.  The weather was fine and everyone involved had a great time.  We were supported by staff and pupils from Walbottle Campus so our thanks go to them for helping to make the day a success.
 
On that note, we are having a grand opening of the OWL Trust on Wednesday 18^th June; with a visit from a real owl and a relay to the schools in our Trust with a commemorative plaque.  We will also unveil our OWL Trust website, which will have a link from our own website.  Unfortunately we will be unable to invite parents to this as we will have to squeeze into our small hall, but we will take photographs to share.
 
This has been a busy half term so far and we are very proud of our Year 6 pupils as they approached their national tests (SATs) with confidence and determination.  Our children can be confident that whatever their results they have worked hard and tried their best. 
 
On Friday Year 6 returned from Belgium.  This trip is one of the highlights of our school year.  Once again, we shared the trip with Year 6 pupils from Waverley Primary and by all accounts they had a great time, made some new friends and learned something of our World War 1 history in Ypres.  I will hear all about it when I see them on Monday.
 
Please keep checking the calendar for events this term.  We have sports days, school fair, cycling proficiency, a whole school trip to Beadnell and lots more.  Year 4 will be visiting Daleby house in Beadnell, WB 23 rd June so let's hope the weather is good. Mr Pickup has re-booked Hawkhirst Activity Centre for Year 5 next year after another great trip last month.
 
We will have the first of two visits to school for our new reception intake in September, this week and next and I look forward to meeting them and their parents as they join our school family.  This is an exciting time of year as we begin to look forward to a new school year, with all the changes that brings.  Year 6 will be leaving us in style with a production of the Wizard of Oz.  They have a month left to pull it together – no problem!
