Summer term
We are artists!
In Year 1 we have been learning about African art and explored different clothing and materials from Kenya. We looked at the patterns and colours in the prints to inspire us in our own art work. We created our own African art patterns using geometric or symbolic styles.

Finding halves of numbers
We had fun finding halves of numbers to 20 using cubes.

Bees, bees everywhere!
We enjoyed a visit from a Year 3 pupil today to tell us all about bees! They shared some photographs of equipment which bee keepers use and they talked to us about their experiences of looking after bees with their family. Year 1 were very excited as we have been learning about bees and how important they are to our world in our science lessons. We also got to taste some of the wonderful honey made by the bees, which was delicious!

Use your imagination!
We are really enjoying our music lessons with Mr Pickup. Today, we have been learning to play the notes C, G and E on the glockenspiel to a specific pulse and we have listened to songs which create a magical mood, like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins.

It’s story time!
We enjoyed a visit from the Year 5 children this week. They designed and created story books with moving parts which they thoroughly enjoying sharing with the children in our class. They read their stories to us and allowed us to make their pictures move, which we loved!

Online safety
Today we listened to a story about how to stay safe online with Clennell Education. We know that if something upsets us or makes us feel uncomfortable we must tell an adult immediately.

Pirates!
Ahoy there! We loved reading The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle. We have written a fictional note to Jim Lad from Tilda as a reply to his message in a bottle which invites her aboard his ship during the upcoming school holidays. We wrote the note in the first person as Tilda.

Pop Art
We have loved finding out all about Pop Art and some of the famous pop art artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. We know that pop art is bold, bright and fun and it was created as art for everyone to enjoy. We know that everyday objects were chosen in different artwork from artists like Warhol so we decided to create our individual pop art with fruits or vegetables. We have mixed primary colours to create secondary colours and we have used the colour wheel to plan our designs around colours which complement each other, which we found very interesting. We hope you like our artwork!
