Christmas Mouse 18/12/24

After the hullaballoo of last week’s mouse adventure, we decided to make some more Christmassy things. We converted some of the mouse traps into snowmen!

We had to go between the invention shed and the science shed as there is a lot more room to spread out in the science shed. Whilst we were there we found some pine cones so decorated them with glitter to make some lovely tree decorations. Then we found some bobble eyes and they looked great stuck onto the cones. They made the cones look like little mice.

Once we got the idea of cone animals the children’s inventive nature took over and we had a wide assortment of different creatures. I thought they looked brilliant.

We made sure that there was time for some hot chocolate made with the Kelly Kettle. It was much quicker this week with the children much more able to get a spark from the ferro rods. Pop-corn too as a healthy snack.

The children enjoyed taking the photos again so they are all there own work.

Christmas Jumpers

It was Christmas Jumper day today and Year 4 have certainly been in a festive mood! Take a look below:

Mouse Adventures 11/12/24

It is great to get to use the Invention shed to do some creative building. I thought it would be a good opportunity to create some festive decorations. We found a wood reindeer in the workshop and went to get the saws and drills necessary to create our own.

Whilst we were in the Forest School shed we found a sleeping mouse, hiding from the cold. It soon woke up and ran around trying to hide again. You can imagine the excitement that this caused. We all agreed that what we should really make were some mice traps. It was great to see the ideas coming forth and I think we should have some completed by next week.

After a good 90 minutes we all thought we deserved a tea break, but this being makers time we had to make our own. First job – light a fire. Whilst the children tried to get a flame I split some sticks, once we had a decent pile and some of the children had practiced lighting cotton wool we brought together to start the fire. We used a Kelly Kettle to boil the water as it is a super quick way to do it, unfortunately we put in too bigger sticks and so had to wait a while longer than we should have done. When the water had boiled we used the embers to pop some corn as a healthy snack to have with our drink.

A busy morning, I am sure you would agree.

All the photos have been taken by the children, they concentrated on things that interested them.

Spooky Shenanigans

What a way to end our first half-term in Year 4! We had a brilliant time dancing and playing party games at the Halloween disco. Take a look at our fantastic party outfits and our scariest faces. Don't get too frightened!

Election Special!

Well done to everyone in Year 4 who put themselves forward as a candidate for our school council election. It takes a lot of courage to stand in front of your classmates and deliver a speech but you all did an admirable job. Everyone listened well and then visited the polling station to make their vote. Democracy in action! Results to be announced in due course...

Super Swimmers

We've spent the last two weeks visiting Gosforth Leisure Centre to take part in afternoon swimming lessons. Although some of us were nervous at the beginning, we made fantastic progress and had a great time.

Roman Research

This term we are learning all about Ancient Rome. Today we researched what daily life was like for Roman citizens. We found out lots of amazing facts!

Particles

In Science, we are learning about states of matter and this week we were exploring how particles act in solids, liquids and gases. What better way to find out than becoming particles ourselves? Take a look below at different groups acting out how particles behave. Can you guess which is which?

Religious Symbols

Year 4 have been looking at how people from different religious groups express their belonging to their faith.
We had a great discussion and shared lots of thoughtful ideas.

Numbers to 1000

Year 4 have been showing off their knowledge of place value by using Base 10 to represent numbers to 1000. A solid start this term, readying ourselves to work with numbers up to 10,000!

Ukuleles

We have started our ukulele lessons with Mr Rudkin!

Take a look at our hard work in preparation for the Big Gig in June...
