To be reviewed October 2025
Our Vision
We will nurture each child through their individual learning journey, to develop tolerance, resilience and a thirst for knowledge which will prepare them for the wider world.
This SEND Information Report should be read in consultation with the SEND policy, Accessibility Plan and Annual SEND Report. Together they include details of:
- The school’s admission arrangements for pupils with SEN or disabilities
- The steps school have taken to prevent pupils with SEN or disabilities from being treated less favourably than other pupils
- The facilities provided to assist access to the school by pupils with SEN and disabilities.
Children and Families Act 2014, Part 3)
A pupil has SEN where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, namely provision different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age. (The SEN Code of Practice 2014).
Rationale:
At Newburn Manor Primary School, we enable all pupils to make the greatest possible progress and achieve their full potential in a caring, supportive and inclusive environment. We ensure that all pupils are supported to reach their potential personally, socially, emotionally and academically regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, physical ability or educational needs. We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between SEND and non-SEND pupils. This may include short-term intervention learning programmes, before and after school skills groups and other learning interventions developed to personalise learning. We have very good attendance as pupils want to come to school to experience our high quality learning provision. All children and young people are entitled to an education that enables them to make progress so that they achieve their best, become confident individuals living fulfilling lives, making a successful transition into adulthood.
The aim of this report is to give families’ general information about the variety of ways which we support children. At Newburn Manor Primary, we recognise that each child is unique and they will therefore receive support to reflect their individual needs. The strategies, resources and support explained are continually developed to meet the needs of our children. We recognise, and value, the need for a full range of educational and pastoral support. In addition to a fully qualified SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and SENTA (Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant) we work very closely with various professionals from a wide range of outside agencies.
Parents can also contact their local Newcastle Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service for impartial information, advice and support in relation to their child’s SEN and/or disability. Newcastle Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SEND IASS) can be contacted on 0191 284 0480 or by email at sendiassadmin@newcastle.gov.uk and the SENDIASS officer is Sarah Francis.
On our school website you can find links to other useful SEN information including our policies on SEN, Inclusion and Behaviour management. You will also find a link to Newcastle’s SEND Local Offer on our SEN page which will outline different agencies and services which will be able to provide more support and guidance for specific special educational needs.

Newburn Manor Primary is an inclusive school who recognises that all children may, at some point in their lives, experience a variety of difficulties. These difficulties may be short term or long term and we aim to support each child in the best way we can, through working collaboratively with parents, carers and individual pupils.
There are a number of reasons why a child may be identified as having SEN:
- They are having significant difficulty with their learning and making far less progress than would be expected.
- They have a specific learning difficulty, for example dyslexia.
- They have emotional or mental health difficulties.
- They have difficulties with social communication and interaction.
- They have sensory and/or physical needs, for example a hearing impairment.
We ensure that any additional needs or difficulties are identified and support is put in place as quickly as possible in close collaboration with parents and carers whose knowledge and understanding of their child is vital in the identification process. When a pupil is identified with a special educational need, a 'My Support Plan' is created and shared with the child and their family.
