Easter Craft Afternoon

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Easter Craft Afternoon.  We had a fantastic time creating crafts for Easter.  The children loved having you there to watch and support them and it was a lovely feeling in the dining hall.  I  hope you enjoyed it too.

Red Nose Day

The children were able to come into school with crazy hair/noses today to raise money for Red Nose Day.

World Book Day

Today was World Book Day.  Children came to school in Bad taste (their worst outfit).  This included lots of bright colours and patterns and mismatched outfits.  Here are a few outfits from the day...

Cricket

This week Adam and Harry from Newcastle PE and school sport service were in school to start our sessions on cricket.  This week we focused on our throwing and aim.  We had to aim to get the ball to bounce in a particular hoop and send it through another hoop.  We then moved on to try to hit the stumps.  These skills will help us as we continue our cricket sessions in the following weeks.

Pancakes

This week Mr Vyle was talking to the children about how pancake day is celebrated around the world.  They finished by having a pancake race in the hall.

Art Week - Painting

This week the children have loved getting involved in art week.  At the beginning of the week, we looked at the colour wheel before creating our own colour wheel (by mixing paint) with Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colours.  The children then looked at complementary colours and looked at the works of Monet and Van Gogh.  They tried painting like an impressionist, copying the style of Monet and also tried colour matching by perfecting their mixing techniques.  By the end of the week, pupils created their own sky in paint and added this to their silhouette of Sycamore Gap.  A fantastic week of art.  Well done Year 5!

Children's Mental Health Week

This week is Children's mental health week.  As part of the week, the class thought about our mental health.  The class were able to explain what mental health is and how we can keep our mental health healthy, just like we do with our physical health.  The children wrote about the things they enjoy doing that help them look after their own mental health.

Puberty talk with the School Nurse

Rachel, our school nurse, came into school to talk to us about Puberty.  She talked to us about how our body would change during puberty and how our emotions might change too.  We looked at how boys and girls change during puberty.  The class already knew some information which was great.  They also asked lots of thoughtful questions.

Sewing Rainforest Soft Toys

We have had a busy week in class creating animal soft toys using our sewing skills.  We started the week looking at different soft toys that already existed and looking at how they were made.  We then started to design our own soft toys with the theme of 'The Rainforest'.  After creating a card template, we then cut our fabric out and started to sew on any appendages.  We finally used either the running stitch or overstitch to sew our fabric together and stuff them too!  Here are the finished products:
