National Festival of Fieldwork

The National Festival of Fieldwork takes place throughout June and we started our fieldwork activities today with a zoom visit with the explorer and geographer Daniel Raven-Ellison and Emma Espley, a consultant to the Geographical Association, who we have worked with in the past. We learned about land use and what are we mis/using earth for? We went out around our local area and explored land use and where we could make a change and why. We enjoyed taking part in all of the activities and using maps of Newburn. We plotted routes and used six figure grid references.

DT Pop up Books

In DT, we explored different pop up books and their mechanisms. We designed and made our own using sliders, rotary, pull tabs, parallel folds, moving arms and wheels and enjoyed investigating various effects and techniques.

Thank you for a fantastic 3 days away last week Year 5 I was incredibly proud of you all. All of the staff at Newby Wiske commented on how caring, fun and well behaved you all were. Other instructors commented to Paige about how much they had enjoyed having you and you should feel proud of yourselves and of everything you achieved over those three days.
