Hibernating Hedgehogs
We had so much fun this week at Scotswood Natural Community Garden learning all about hedgehogs! We know that hedgehogs are mammals that are warm-blooded and we know that in the colder months they will hibernate. We carried out a scientific experiment to see if we could maintain a warm temperature for our 'hedgehogs' in a hibernation nest. We also went on a hedgehog treasure trail to see if we could find some hedgehog treasure which they would love to eat. We found millipedes, worms and lots of woodlice in the garden and woodlands areas. We then found out some amazing facts about hedgehogs. Do you know that they weigh about the same as a small bag of flour and that an adult hedgehog can have between 5,000 and 7,000 spines on its body to help to protect it from predators? Ask us what else we have learned about hedgehogs... we might surprise you!
A big thank you to Jennie and her team for making our day so special.
Be your favourite animal!
Marlen, one of the PE coaches is teaching us 'Dance' this half term. This week we enjoyed choosing our favourite jungle animal and dancing like them to a piece of music. We loved being elephants, monkeys, lions and tigers to name a few.
Art and Design
We have learned about different drawing techniques like circling, stippling, hatching and shading, and we have practised these techniques in our art books. We have enjoyed studying Gustav Klimt and some of his famous artwork. We have used a range of drawing techniques to recreate one of his paintings. It was so much fun!
