Year 1 enjoyed a special treat on Friday afternoon of a movie, popcorn and treats to celebrate being last half term's attendance winners.

World Book Day
Thursday 6th March
As always, we enjoyed a fun-packed day in school. This year, we shared our favourite fairytales and dressed up in our worst outfits for fun, as reading is fun too! We love to read and we are learning more and more every day. World Book Day is a celebration which we always look forward to.

The Lady of the Lamp
This week we celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We studied Florence Nightingale and the wonderful contributions she made to the nursing profession. We enjoyed watching animations of her life and recalling our favourite facts. We even displayed our work in the corridor for all to see.

Number Fun!
We just love working with numbers and using classroom equipment to show our understanding.

It's Children's Mental Health Week 3rd to 9th February 2025!
This year the theme is 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself' in partnership with Here4You, supported by The Walt Disney Company and the Inside Out 2 characters.
In class, we have discussed what we think mental health means and how our mental health and are physical health are linked. We have watched clips of the Inside Out films and talked about which emotion each character is portraying. We linked our discussions to the Zones of Regulation and we talked about ways in which we can support our own mental heath and the health of our loved ones. We have enjoyed mindful colouring, making personalised memories boxes and mirroring emotions with our partners in Dance during our PE sessions. We know about the importance of looking after ourselves and the positive impact this can have on our mental health.
The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you will go.
We are really enjoying our reading groups. We are so proud of ourselves and the progress that we are making. We are becoming confident when reading aloud and we are learning to use our best storyteller voices to interest our listeners. We also LOVE our Lexia sessions each week. Some of us are so keen to get our next certificate, we are completing sessions on Lexia at home, which is definitely helping our reading and spelling. We love to learn!
Chinese New Year
We have learned all about the Chinese New Year celebrations this week. We know that communities all over our city and the world will be celebrating the new year through singing, dancing, eating special meals with their families and street parades. We know that the colour red is considered lucky in Chinese culture and that different animals make up the Chinese Zodiac. This year it is the Year of the Snake. As part of the celebrations, we have enjoyed dancing in the hall with a partner, roaring loudly as dragons and making paper lanterns.

Art & Design
We have learned different drawing techniques and used these skills to recreate artwork by Gustav Klimt. We know that he loved to paint nature and we know that being in the natural world is good for our wellbeing.
