Possible Strike Action
Wed 08 Oct 2014We may be closed on Tuesday, 14 October as Unison, Unite and GMB have agreed to strike. This affects support staff in school. We have been advised by the unions that they are in negotiations and may call off the strike. We will let you know by text message as soon as we know the answer. We suggest in the meantime that alternative arrangements are made for childcare in the eventuality of strike action. -
Off To A Flying Start
Thu 11 Sep 2014We are well underway with another academic year now and I welcome our children and families back to school. I want to particularly welcome our new children and families in Reception and in various classes throughout the school.
The children look so smart in their uniform; we really appreciate your support in ensuring your child has the correct uniform, shoes and equipment.
Last year we had our best overall attendance ever and we hope to make it even better this year; though we are off to a flying start! Fewer families are taking holidays in term time and this makes a big difference to our attendance figures - that and the mild winter we had last year. I know that it is very difficult for some families not to take holidays in term time, however, due to a change in government legislation I am unable to authorise this absence.
We are currently waiting for some updates to our website and these should be completed soon. There will be a section for achievers of the week; these are the children who amongst other things will receive an ACE badge for Attitude, Commitment or Effort. This could be for any aspect of school life; as usual we don’t just reward academic achievement. Please continue to send in the medals, trophies and certificates the children receive in their clubs as we like to acknowledge the effort and hard work our children put into achieving these. We are having a rest from class medals this year as some of the children had lost interest in them.
We were sorry to see our Year 6 pupils leave us in July though they seem to have settled well in their new schools and we wish them well. You might be interested in our key stage 2 results:

We are particularly pleased that all children made expected (2 levels) progress in all subjects and a considerable number made better than expected progress from Key stage 1 (Year2).
If you would like to discuss any aspect of our expectations and approach to National Tests in Year 6, or even an explanation of what our results show, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Mrs Tait.
We have lots of things planned for this year and you will find a list of dates for this term on the website in the calendar section. Your child’s teacher will contact you soon about parent consultation sessions on the evenings of 6th and 8th October.
Finally, please help your child to remember PE kit and reading book. If you need any support or information from our Family Support Officer, Julie Ions, do not hesitate to contact us.
I am looking forward to another great year with our children. Thank you again for your continued support. -

School Twitter Account
Tue 08 Jul 2014We are pleased to announce that Newburn Manor Primary School now has a Twitter account. We will be tweeting about school news, events and anything else we think parents/carers may find useful. Our username is @nmpsch so please follow us if you can! You can also see our Twittter page at www.twitter.com/nmpsch without having to have a Twittter account. We hope to have a Twitter feed on this website at some point too. -
Dad's amazing fundraising!
Fri 04 Jul 2014Callum is very proud of his dad, he completed the '25th Anniversary Allendale Challenge' in April of this year. He very kindly offered to raise funds for our school and raised the huge amount of £743!
This was a very challenging event over some rough terrain in some tough conditions and Matthew completed this in 8 hours and 13 minutes, phew!
We are planning to build a climbing wall in our school grounds with the money raised. Thank you Matthew.

Update from Head Teacher
Sun 15 Jun 2014You may not have noticed much of a change since we officially became part of the Outer West Learning Trust and that’s how we want it, the same but different! The day to day running of our school will remain the same but we have now the potential to work with and learn from other schools, develop great opportunities for learning and share high quality training for staff.
Our first Trust event was an athletics meeting at Newburn Activity Centre on Tuesday of last week involving years 4 and 5 from 10 local schools. The weather was fine and everyone involved had a great time. We were supported by staff and pupils from Walbottle Campus so our thanks go to them for helping to make the day a success.
On that note, we are having a grand opening of the OWL Trust on Wednesday 18th June; with a visit from a real owl and a relay to the schools in our Trust with a commemorative plaque. We will also unveil our OWL Trust website, which will have a link from our own website. Unfortunately we will be unable to invite parents to this as we will have to squeeze into our small hall, but we will take photographs to share.
This has been a busy half term so far and we are very proud of our Year 6 pupils as they approached their national tests (SATs) with confidence and determination. Our children can be confident that whatever their results they have worked hard and tried their best.
On Friday Year 6 returned from Belgium. This trip is one of the highlights of our school year. Once again, we shared the trip with Year 6 pupils from Waverley Primary and by all accounts they had a great time, made some new friends and learned something of our World War 1 history in Ypres. I will hear all about it when I see them on Monday.
Please keep checking the calendar for events this term. We have sports days, school fair, cycling proficiency, a whole school trip to Beadnell and lots more. Year 4 will be visiting Daleby house in Beadnell, WB 23 rd June so let's hope the weather is good. Mr Pickup has re-booked Hawkhirst Activity Centre for Year 5 next year after another great trip last month.
We will have the first of two visits to school for our new reception intake in September, this week and next and I look forward to meeting them and their parents as they join our school family. This is an exciting time of year as we begin to look forward to a new school year, with all the changes that brings. Year 6 will be leaving us in style with a production of the Wizard of Oz. They have a month left to pull it together – no problem!
